Learning English Through True Crime (Yes, Really!)
I have to admit something…
I didn’t create this page because true crime is trendy. I created it because I kept seeing the same thing happen again and again with my students.
They weren’t trying to “study.”
They were just listening.
And suddenly—boom—their English improved.
Listening got sharper. Vocabulary stuck. Speaking felt more natural. And no one was asking, “Is this on the test?” Oh my God! Can I get an AMEN?
That’s exactly why I’ve added a brand-new page to my website:
π Learning English Through True Crime
https://englishwithyasmine.weebly.com/learning-english-through-true-crime.html
Why True Crime?
Long story short… our brains love stories.
True crime uses real people, real emotions, and real English. You hear how ideas are organized, how details are emphasized, how time and cause are explained—naturally. No stiff textbook sentences. No robotic listening exercises.
And when you actually care about the story? You pay attention without forcing it. Hummmmm… imagine that.
Who Is This For?
This page is for:
English learners who love podcasts, YouTube, and documentaries
ESL students tired of boring listening practice
Teachers looking for authentic, engaging material
Anyone who already watches true crime and thought, “Wait… why is my English improving?”
Spoiler alert: it’s not an accident π
What You’ll Find on the Page
On this new page, I explain:
Why true crime works so well for language learning
How to use podcasts and videos without overthinking it
What kind of vocabulary learners pick up naturally
How to improve listening and speaking at the same time
When true crime isn’t the right choice (important!)
I even included a huge, student-friendly true crime vocabulary list—because why not go all in?
Final Thought
Why do we do this to ourselves—making English harder than it needs to be?
If you already love true crime, use it.
If you’re curious, try it.
And if it’s not your thing? No worries—English lives in all kinds of stories.
But for the right learner, true crime can turn “studying English” into something you actually look forward to. Ta-da! π§✨
Go check out the new page, explore it at your own pace, and let English meet you where your curiosity already lives.
I love you all and miss you.
Okay… now you can enjoy the rest of the blog π
Tata for now π
